Make it Right Challenge - A Quilt

I'm sure many, if not all of you have heard about the "Make it Right Challenge" using a panel plus some solids from Angela Walters' debut fabric line, Textures.

A little over a month ago, Angela asked me if I would participate in the challenge and I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to participate.

I wanted to leave the center of the panel alone and make it the focus of the quilt. I also knew that I wanted pull out some of the rectangles on the other half of the panel and feature them more prominently.

I love the colors in the panel, but I wanted to bring in another color that some people may not thing to add. I thought about going with a purple, but in the end picked this beautiful pink Pure Element solid - Cherry Lipgloss! Hey, what can I say? I like to be different. The background is Pure Element White Linen and the other teal is Tile Blue.

I know what you're thinking... I didn't use the whole panel, just a few pieces.  Actually, I uses almost every single inch of that panel. What's not in the quilt top became a part of the binding.

When it came time to quilt this up, I wanted to emphasize the straight lines in the fabric. I divided the top into four equal quadrants and alternated the direction of the straight line quilting by quadrant.

I backed the quilt in the crosshatch print from Angela's textures line. 

This quilt finishes at 48" x 46".

Tumbler Quilt Finished

I finished my tumbler quilt last week and I brought it with me to get some good photographs when I went to visit my parents at their beach house.

I love the way this quilt came out. I started this as a leaders and enders project a while back.

I used four charm packs of Kate Spain's Fandango line that I cut out using my Accuquilt Go! cutter.  I used the baby die for this one since the regular die is larger than a charm pack. 

I quilted this one by quilting on either size of the zig zag seam and I really like how it came out.  I think the quilting looks even better on the back of the quilt.

It's backed using an Art Gallery print that I had in my stash.  It's from the Botanica line. 

My brother-in-law is expecting a baby in November, and if it ends up being a girl, I was thinking of giving this quilt to the new baby since it's a perfect baby sized quilt.  I forget the actual dimensions, but it took just a one yard cut of fabric for the backing.

NEMQG January Meeting

Last Saturday was our January meeting of the NEMQG.  We met up at the Arlington public library where we were greeted by a trunk show from Sew Fresh Fabrics.

They talked all about what it is like to own a fabric store on etsy and what it's like to work in the fabric industry.

After, we all had a chance to purchase some of their great fabric.

Here we are digging through everything, making a mess, and buying lots of fabric!

These are the goodies that I came away with.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned how much I love Art Gallery fabrics.  Well, I love Art Gallery fabrics.  I'm not a big orange person, so some of these fabrics are a bit out of my comfort zone.

I also managed to snag some Castle Peeps fabrics.  6 fat quarters and a half yard.  I'm not sure what I'll do with this, but this was one of those lines that I was hoping to get before you couldn't find the line anymore.
