While I Was Away

I've been quite on the blogging front because I've been head down trying to finish my Moonlit Sky quilt for the Lowell Quilt Festival.  I have to send it out by the end of this week, so I've been working on it any time I have some free time.  Yesterday I finished adding the last of the 3000 Swarovski crystals and added and finished the binding.  All that is left is the hanging sleeve and the label.  I'll post pictures once I'm done.

In the mean time, I thought I'd share the project that i took with me to Georgia and the Bahamas.

I started making some hexi's using a free mini charm pack that I won a while back.  This totally isn't my style, but I thought I'd make this into a wall hanging as a gift for someone else.  I laid out all of the hexagons on the piece of paper behind it and taped them to it as I was sewing it together.  This helped me keep the layout that I wanted without hexi's moving all over the place.

I'll probably put this aside for a bit now and pick it up when it comes time to travel another time.  We shall see.  Maybe I'll bring it with my on our upcoming trip to Paris. 

New Quilt Plans

I'm taking a class beginning in March at a LQS with KK and Lynn.  I'm really looking forward to it.  It doesn't start for a month, but I already have a lot of the fabric I want to use.

They're all batiks.  I'm going for the browns, rusts, and teals.  I'm just hoping I have enough contrast since the pattern really calls for a lot of contrast.  I have a few brighter teals, but I'm not sure they fit with the color scheme.  I'll have to bring them with me to see as I go along.

It's not like I've never done paper piecing (as you've been able to tell in this blog) or curved piecing.  It's more to gather for the social experience and learn a few tips.  I always seem to learn something even though I've been quilting for a good 7 years now. I don't think that will ever change either.  I'm looking forward to this class because I really like the pattern.

Another Win and Some English Paper Piecing

I must have some great luck with me right now because I won another blog giveaway from Dye Candy's most recent giveaway.  I got my package in the mail yesterday.  Aren't the colors just fantastic?  Thank you so much Chris!  I'm trying to think of how I can use these beautiful dyed fabrics.  Hmm...

I've also begun using the 2 1/2" charm squares from the sampler box I won a little while ago from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I've never made anything using English paper piecing, so I thought this was a great chance to try.  I'm using the Whimsy line.  It's not my style at all, but it's nice to work with different colors and more traditional fabrics every now and then.
