412"

Yup, that's how many inches of binding I just prepared, 412" to bind my Frolic quilt that I recently got back from Natalia of Piece N Quilt.

It may not look like 412" of bias binding, but it is. 

Now to sew it on sometime soon. 

More Hand Work

I just got my machine back on Sunday afternoon and spent the rest of the day hiding out with it in my sewing room.  Before I got it back though, I ended up completing a bit of hand work for a wall hanging I've been working on for a while.

I made these hexi's a while ago using a mini charm pack that I had won, unsure of what I was planning on making with them.  While I was machine-less, I finished piecing these together.  I'm going to sew it down onto a cream background, do some echo quilting around the hexi's and bind it in a nice brown kona. 

Here you can see that I have it all pinned down to the middle of the background, ready to be sewn onto the background and then quilted.

What to do When Traveling

As I noted a few days ago, I was traveling last week for work.  While on the plane to and from, I spent some time reading a book, watching a movie on my iPad, and working on another tile block. This is block three of the tile quilt blocks that I'm working on occasionally.

I'm almost half done with this block.  To me, this is a great block to take and work on while traveling because all you need is some thread, a needle and something to cut the thread with (dental floss cutter, nail clippers, etc.) and you can work on a block!  I prepared the block in advance and basted it at home before leaving, so I didn't even have to deal with pins.

I have another trip coming up, so I'll hopefully finish this at that point.

Prepping Another Fused Mini Quilt

Last year at MQX I picked up a couple of laser cut 12" Hawaiian style designs but haven't used either of them yet.  With my machine still at the machine doctor's, I decided to turn one of them into a mini quilt. 

I picked a great charcoal for the background and I think it really compliments the pink well. It's all sandwiched up and ready to be quilted, once I get my machine back.  I'll probably stitch around the outline of the pink and then do something in the charcoal to make it pop.  I'm not sure what just yet though.

More Octagonal Orb Cutting

I've managed to do some more cutting for the octagonal orb quilt I'm planning.  I cut up the 30+  different grey and white fabrics into squares and rectangles.

I also began going through my stash and arranging pieces of 2.5" squares into color groups.

I need 24 for each block.  For some colorways I have as many as 15-20 different fabrics.  For some, I only have between 4-8 pieces.  I was hoping not to repeat any fabrics, but I may have to in some blocks.  I'll probably raid my aunt's stash and see if she has any small pieces of fabric that I could add here as well, then I'll have to address how many blocks I'll make and using what colors. 

I have everything in plastic bags, as you can tell, all ready to take to retreat next month!  When you put the fabrics against the grey fabric you can see how it really pops.  I think I'm really going to like this quilt.
